Paint bucket fills the entire layer!

While I was doing a tutorial yesterday, something has changed in the settings of the Ps. Yesterday I drew a shape with the pen tool, and then filled the inside of it with black, using paint bucket. Today the entire layer gets filled along with the pen outline. I tried the ellipse tool instead of pen tool to draw a shape. Same drama. My shape just gets painted over. Any chance anyone would know, what's changed?
