I know this is probably coming off the wrong way but... Im just trying to help out some good people, since my stay here i have felt welcomed and at home. The lay out and style is stellar ..

I think a great suggestion is moving some of your content into the same sub forums, for example the main index page, it's a bit long to navigate and some of the subforums and even main forums hold the same content, i think you would be better off merging some of those as they cover about 90% of the same topics, in doing so you would condense your boards content along with your Keywords. Honestly i just now realized how far you could scroll down on the board here. Having all those main Forums can get messy when bots come and try an index your board unless you have one hell of a Sitemap and with all those forums carrying the same type of content it makes sense to do some optimizing..

By removing some of your main forums and merging some of the existing ones, it would be more user friendly and a lot easier to navigate + more search engine friendly. Again, please do not take this the wrong way and think "who in the hell does this guy think he is coming to our board asking for button help and suggesting we do such things!?!?!", i am really not trying to tell you what to do with your board, im just trying to help you out and give you a view point from the Users stand point...

Btw, i know what all is involved to do what im suggesting and by no means is it easy LOL!! This is my new spot to hang out and if you ever need any help with anything just ask, i like to do this kind of stuff for fun!!! It's great exercise for the old noggin!!
 
It's a good suggestion and it's something we are already working on.

The sitemap is not a problem, and it all gets indexed just fine, but in terms of usability I agree with you 100%

admin and I took over management of this site only just last month. We kind of brought it back from the brink of death by spam. After changing the theme, removing spam, etc. we are working on this currently.

A lot of the pages are indexed in Google, and when we change the names of forums/move them/reorganize then those old URL's no longer work, so we are doing it slowly over time.

We do appreciate the input and please feel free to offer any other suggestions.
 
Yea, i did some skim reading on what you guys was doing, i must have missed the part where it said you guys just recently took it over, from the sounds of it, this place had bots running a muck!! You are also right about the the board getting indexed, i checked out that SEO mod, the main thing it does to help the board is Rewrite, that is so important!! Duplicate content can hurt ya...

Anyways, glad you guys didn't kick me off the board after that post, some owners take offense way to easy...

What was the average number of users that singed in a day when old Betsy here was in her prime before you guys got her? Just curious, i know you guys show up in google at like #2 or #3 when the keywords photoshop and forum are used...

I bet the forums section in your ACP is a frigging mess right now huh??
 
It was pretty bad... the previous admin was traveling a lot and I think eventually he just stopped caring. It's great to see it coming back to life and in such a short time. I have high hopes for it in the future :)

Yea VBSEO does an amazing job with the rewrites and automatic xml sitemaps. Actually I think it's one of the best reasons to go with VB over other forums software.

I don't know what the signups looked like back in the day, but right now we have an average of about 20 per day.

Yes.... forums in the ACP hurts to look at lol.... but we are cleaning it up slowly.
 
Well, if that's what it takes then so be it!! there are some new SEO tools out for phpbb, im a little weary yet to install them live, i mean i could do a test on my machine local but that's not going to give me SEO results, nor can i track what Google is doing. I take that back, i could.. but to much work...

The Admins and Mods here are doing a brilliant job at bringing the forum back from what it was, I left and came back as it was all adds and spam, the forums are quite messy if you will, but I do understand why they don't change all the forum as this could kill it.

The feedback you have given is a good point and the Admins and Mods here, will not kick you for making a suggestion, I really do feel they listen to it's members and do what can be done to help the forum and not just the staff. (shame most forums don't do this)

I do feel that they need a more active Mod on the forum and from a different Time zone, but this will be done in time :)
 
Good point! Different time zone!! That seams pretty darn logical to me.

From the way it sounds, it was pretty dam bad here.... So big ups to Gaus and the crew!!! One of my new favorite hang outs.
 
After we get it organized we'll be looking for mods for each section :)

Not doing it yet because some of them are quite messy.
 
Well, like everyone has said, it's good you guys came along to fix it up. One of my buddy's started a forum about fishing and it was well maintained, at the end of the fishing season he abandoned it and OMG! The bots came out of the woodwork! Of course it was over run with them and everybody quit coming.

With a forum this big it's hard to expect miracles over night i suppose...
