OpenType or TrueType

I got a font and it came with a file type of OpenType and TrueType, is there a difference in these at all?

So since I am not technically installing either of them, they just sit in a folder, would OpenType be best for just making a desktop background?

I mean, reading the link you gave, it seems neither really matters but OpenType looks like is better? I don't know.

I think it is the newest and it is Adobe, so I would go with it. I have some vague memories hearing/reading the old are not so good when resized, but really not sure about it, you would have to search the net.
