Hey guys,
I'm curious to know - has anyone here ever paid for online tutorials? For Illustrator, Photoshop or any other Adobe applications? Would you consider it and if no, why not?

If you have bought online tutorials in the past, would you recommend it for beginners?

I personally look on Youtube first, if that is unsuccessful i just browse the internet until i do. But that's just me. I would say that tutorials you pay for are worth it, if you know you can use it in most of you work.

I may have paid for some basic tutorials at the start, just to pick it up a lot quicker. But I wouldn't pay for them now.

I belonged to lynda.com. It's $25 a month, 35 if you want all their image files which I didn't for 10 bucks more. They have titles for probably every software out there and great tutors. Like Deke McClelland, but other really good ones too. And they keep the older ones, so if you have CS3 or 4, those are still there and have info relevant to current versions that you can't find in the newer vids. Anyway, I found them to be extremely helpful since there is no searching, and the classes are complete. Like 9 hours of essentials for CS5 or some number like that. I do use free tutorials on the net and we have lots of them here. These are not as organized (though you can find organized tutorial sites), but there are some great special effect tutorials to be found. I have many bookmarked.

Anyway, find some basics of Photoshop first. I guarantee that if you subscribe, even for a month or two, to lynda.com, you will learn lots and enjoy it. You'll also be able to search for specific issues as you have them come up in your work. Good luck.

I have used Kelby training...good stuff, bit pricy, but complete, along with his books, great tools.
