Oil Painting Type Images From Digital Cam

I have an Orite C8020 Digital cam 8.0 Megapixel , the images from it kinda oil painted type }:\ Here's an attachment :



As you can see pixels look like kinda dsplaced if you zoom in .

It has two noticable settings

1. Exposure = (auto) and +1 + 2 +3 etc. and -1 -2 -3 etc

2. While Balance = (auto) ( daylight ) ( flourcent ) and one more I can't remember

Image quality is also set to fine

and resolution is on 1280 x something

I'm really disappointed by it's results like this. Is this the fault of camera ? or just the setting ?

Yes, they don't look good, even shots of 3MP cameras look a lot better than this.
Personally I wouldn't trust companies that advertise with "8.0 Mega Pixels CMOS Interpolated". Many potential customers don't understand the part that reads "interpolated" and just ignore it, so they think they buy a 8MP camera like any other 8MP camera, when the actual resolution is much lower.

Btw, number of pixels is not so important anymore today, what's more important is dymanic range, quality of lenses, result under low light conditions, etc

The fact that Google only comes up with not more than 3 web sites after you type in "Orite C8020" and that searching for "O'Rite C8020" (with the ' between O and Rite) only gives me Ebay listings only makes me more suspicious. It's not like they're selling paper towels right, we're talking here about digital cameras (lot of expensive research/development involved) so I would expect to find a lot more advertising, more product information, also manuals or accessories. I can?t find it on a site like http://www.orite.com.tw which to me seems to be the original manufacturer.? ?

Now I must admit that your resolution setting of 1280 is pretty low, but that shouldn't make a major difference for the format that of the image that you shared with us, unless 1280 is actually 1280 interpolated, meaning that the actual resolution could well be a poor 640 pixels. Yes, it has a painting look, but also has a poor dynamic range; notice the lack of details in shadows and highlights. Also notice the distracting pink color on the white shirt, another indication of poor quality.

People sell 8MP cameras on Ebay for $125 and you want my honest opinion; all junk. Try to buy a Canon, Olympus, Nikon on Ebay for that price on the same Ebay??

Hopefully I'm all wrong and will you manage to improve the quality slightly (try pumping up the default resolution), but it will never be close to the better 5MP A-brand cameras that I can buy here at the local store for around $200.

I know, it?s not the news you would like to hear.? Maybe I?m all wrong, I?m just human as anyone else and I don't have the opportunity to test the camera on location, but I sure have my suspicions.

YESSSSSSSSSSSSSS, co'z I can't claim that in warranty either, beco'z they will never admit it. My god send me a 3MP cam

I think it's a 5MP when I look at the specifications at O'rite. But still, I think you can get rid of the painting look by increasing the default resolution. On my camera I have an option to do so. Have you tried this Nemesis?

Yeah I pumped up the resoulution to 32xx X something and result is fine now. But some times Shadows in pics are annyoing at night time under a tube light's light. But as the internal memory is only 16 MB so I have to buy a memory card of minimum 128 MB for it. Thanx Blue for your suggessions. I have to live up with this cam

will have to watch out for that trap during next digicam purchase (been lucky so far .. 2 cams, no probs .. first was Kodak, current beastie is Olympus 8} 8} [excited] 8} ...)
