Hi everyone!

Im using the 3D pyramid shape in CS5 and am trying to us it to make an octahedron (two pyramids joined at the base). Is there a clever way to line up the two pyramids to make an octahedron. I am using trial and error and never seem to get them aligned perfectly.

Thanks!

Make sure View - Snap is checked and View - Snap to - Layers is checked also. Just make sure they are on separate layers and you shouldn't have any problems.

Ah! Sounds promising. I'll give it a go.

Thanks.

Er...ok. Couldnt do it. I create pyramids on separate layers. When moving the second one, it doesnt snap to the edges of the other one. I have Snap to Layers and all else too. Im using the object rotate tool.

Can you post the psd file please.

View attachment pyramid2.psd

I hope you now have the file.

Thanks for having a look. It may look nearly OK, but not without mucho trial and error, and you can see that one edge falls short. It would be really handy if I could drag the point of one of the four pyramid base corners and see it snap to the corner point of the other pyramid base.

Ah you're using 3d objects. The method I mentioned would have worked if the shape was front on (the bottom being a straight line). I can see the dimensions of the bottom sides and angels are off so they are not aligning properly. Sorry I can't be of any help, but I'm not very familiar with 3d objects. Perhaps someone else can take a look.
