MY 1ST ONE IS
I need tips on how to bring my photoshop images into the program and start building my site without using iWeb........ Oh brother these baby steps are a killer I feel like I'm walking with a loaded........Diaper..lol NowWhat?:bustagut:

You don't need to bring the files "into the program".

I have no idea how iWeb works, from what I read it's a website builder for people without any knowledge of building websites. Dreamweaver is an HTML editor. So I assume the 2 work very differently.

What you do is to save all your images to a directory on your computer. Then create a new HTML document in DW. Save it in a parent directory to the images directory. Then "Insert > image" and simply browse to the image you'll like to insert.

It will make sense to learn the very basics of HTML and CSS.

I'll be happy to set up a super simple/basic starter package if you like, just to get you launched ... would that help?

Cheers

Chris

Heck yeah......everything I know about building my site, I have done with Ps and iWeb Had DW but never had a chance to try it out before trail expired lol that would be very much appreciated.

Ok, I'll have that ready within the hour. I'll post it here.

Basically it's not so much about learning how to use DW. It's about learning how to build a website. And then using DW to do so.

Of course it all depends on what you are trying to achieve. There are plenty of services available which convert your PS designs into clean HTML/CSS for you. Web design is a huge field. And it won't do you much good just to play around in DW. You need to learn the basics of web design. Then use DW to apply these - are you up for a challenge? ;)

It's great fun though! Abd rewarding when you start getting a grip on it...

Cheers

Okay, here's a very basic set up. One page, one image, one CSS file. You can look at it live here:

iDad's funky new place

you can download the package here:

http://www.lemon-digital.com/idad/downloads/idad.zip

One thing to keep in mind:

a) to create a webpage you write the HTML where you place your content. Headlines, paragraphs, lists, links, page diligence etc
b) you then use CSS to format the content. Meaning: my headline is red and bold and it appears top left, my paragraph is in Arial with 100% font size and always has a 10 pixel margin at the bottom, my list will always be indented by 25 pixels and have green fonts

etc.

This is one of the most important basic concepts of web design: the separation of presentation and content. Your content should always be completely separate from your presentation. Meaning whatever I do, whichever tool I use to access your website, I will always be able to read your content. Then depending on the CSS file you serve I can see it in a certain format

Once you grasp this you've done your first huge step. Learn how to create basic HTML elements like <div> ( divisions), <p> (paragraphs) etc and learn how to style them with the CSS and you are on your way.

Feel free to ask, I'll try to help as best I can when I'm around.

Cheers

Chris
