After Effects noob needs help viewing guides

Hi,
New to AE, all's working well but I can't figure how to view guides.
I've created a guide layer, clicked every "guide" related button I can find but no go..

nevermind, didn't know you had to turn rulers on, then drag from either ruler - painful...
