Here's the place to discuss the images in the thread:
NO WORDS THREAD 20130330b: Abstract

The first of my two images started as a grab of one of the opening screens for Windows Vista. I then manipulated it with repetitive transforms. If you are not familiar with this technique, it's a very useful technique to know. It allows you to repeat any transform (cntl-T) you make in Photoshop on the result of the last transform. For example, if your last transform moved, scaled, distorted and rotated a layer, this technique will apply exactly the same movement, scaling, distortion and rotation to the result of the previous transform and add it to the layer. Below are instruction on how to do this.

My second image is a couple of candlestick holders that met their untimely end with the "Liquify" tool ;-)

PS - Here's how to do step-and-repeat with the transform tool:

1. Select the object or region of interest.

2. Hit, alt-control-T this puts you in the copy and transform tool. If you simply hit, "Control-T", this puts you in the ordinary transform tool.

3. Tansform your object in any way, ie, displacement, size, angle, distortion, etc.

4. HIT ENTER. This step is easy to forget.

5. Hit: alt-control-shift-T. This activates the copy and transform-again tool. Hit enter for as many copies as you want.

Re: NO WORDS THREAD 20130330b: Abstract

This no word thread is kind of a pain in the butt (no offense) but going from one thread to another to talk about the thread you just read kind of like juggling, eventually you drop something and it's to much of a hassle to pickup where you left off. Why not have one thread to carry all the thoughts and images, it may show more interest ...... That's my no words thought about no wods, just delete it if out of line.......

No, it's a very reasonable comment, iDad, and I've been worried about the same thing myself.

My experience in other post-your-photo forums has been that if you allow any chit-chat at all to be intermixed with the photos, the pure visual experience gets terribly diluted, any train of thought gets lost with side discussions, etc. For this reason, one photography forum, the no-words section photo.net totally excludes ANY text, and it works extremely well - it's one of their most popular content areas.

I never liked that there was no way to discuss the photos (other than start up your own thread), so I thought that starting a parallel thread at the same time as the main thread would give the best of both worlds. No one has to post in the discussion thread.

That being said, let's see how it works over the next couple of weeks and make a decision then.

Best regards,

Tom

Chopped a BMW motorbike then made it all concept abstract.
Original file
K-1200-R-Silver-Motorbike.jpg all done with clone stamp, warp/smudge and my favourite liquify.

Hey, Paul - Just to make things clear, when I checked the "like" box for your 3 wheel contraption, that referred to only to your photoshop skills. I definitely wouldn't want to try to drive that thing with its two front (steering) wheels and the steering linkage you "showed"!:eek::eek:

Maybe your next photoshop challenge should be to give the front wheels a huge amount of camber, like on the dual nose gear on some old airplanes.

Dear Paul,

This is the Tread for No Words. Which in Technical Terms? ...Means Well? ...No Pictures.

So, I Will Hope that You Refrain from Posting until You Get that Clear in Your Head.

Now, I Know that I-Daddy doesn't Understand or Appreciate the Idea of Having the Full-On! Art Experience of Having No Words Spoken During Art Appreciation Moment, but if He Would Just take back a Moment to Reflect upon the Beauty that Tom Has Created in the Thread for No Words - You Would Completely Understand Why There is No Words for His Artwork.

Now that We All Know Where We're Coming From, and If We Adhere to All the Rules, We All won't Go Straight to Hell.

My Best Regards.

Tracy this is the thread for discussing the images and if posting an image here to show a before shot helps the discussion that's just fine.
Since Paul and Tom set up some new threads here he's quite aware of what's allowed and what's not.

Splitting this between comment and images isn't uncommon but we've never done it here before so i agree with iDad it's a little confusing at first.

I can Full-well appreciate an art experience.. Now if after looking at the image in the no words thread if there were a link to the other thread at the bottom of each post it might make sense to me, but trying to find another post which may be way down on the list of available threads is simply put a pitbutt < You can figure that out Dick Tracy........ oh trials and tribulations...... carry-on

@Steve - re your spiral staircase.

It's certainly abstract enuf for me, as is. But if you want more abstract, put something like *this* on another layer, center everything up, change the blending mode to something weird, and you'll be on your way to a genuine, certified 1960's style lava-lamp / psychedelic trip that could have graced the screen in back of Grace Slick. :jawdrop: .
