Just installed windows 7 back onto my PC (yes it's legit) and I can't get an Internet connection, I'm using a wireless dongle, and it says that no connections are available.

is it likely that I need to install the drivers for the dongle again?

thanks for any help, it's been a while since i used windows, i'm thankful to see it automatically installed the latest AMD driver for my graphic drivers, a lot less fuss for me :P

Sounds like a driver issue to me. This happens to me when I reinstall windows too. What model dongle do you have? (Also how can it find the latest graphics drivers, if you're not online)?

that's what i was wondering, but it's definitely installed the latest drivers AND installed updates too which was what got the motor going really. i'll install the drivers and see how i go.

it's a Belkin wireless G adapter. way behind it's time considering our connection is on the n band, but it works that's all i give a damn for.

No idea what a dongle is, but I have a belkin wireless router myself and sometimes it will go out for no apparent reason and absolutely cannot communicate with my modem. The only way to get it working again is to unplug the modem and router to reboot them, then plug the modem in first and then the router.
I don't know if that would work for you, or if you tried already, but I just thought I'd add my 2 cents. :)

Belkins biggest floor is the 'dropping out' issue, they work well until this happens.

Belkin's adapters and routers are all right with me, I'll try the driver first, I know what windows is like, it's not "shut up and get on with it" like linux. :P

It's netgear that is hilariously flawed, I have a netgear router at the moment and my lord the amount of times it cuts out drives me insane! or it wont cut out, it just won't work it'll connect but will take the absolute mickey to connect to anything.

I have used Netgear for the last five years never had a issue at all, even living here in Australia now i use the same one i had in the UK and even in this heat never cut's out or drops ever?

Ever thought it might be Virgin and not the router?

hmm could be, i did have my IP refreshed, to no avail, but a majority of the time, restarting the router does the job if it's misbehaving.

we've had other netgear routers on different providers, and they were quite bad too, but I think that was because the provider was terrible and the last time we used virgin we used another brand of router, it worked fine. but things change i suppose. it could be worse, it could be some generic chepo crud.

Horses and courses mate, that or i have been real lucky over the years and you have been real unlucky?

I had a very similar issue with the new 3 dongle...

Once you plug it in it loads the drivers and off you go. Mine never had the drivers loaded on the dongle rendering it useless.

that sucks, Mobile internet providers are real douches sometimes. did you get a working dongle in the end?

Well drivers are loaded and working, I'm beginning to like windows 7 more and more, there's so much less faffing around with the connections than on XP, as soon as I loaded the driver it picked up networks found my one, done! with XP i had to restart my computer several times and reinsert the adapter before it picked anything up. even then it was a terrible connection.

I will get to re-installing Photoshop soon I promise!

I only used it, or tried to use it when I was switching ISP's...

I had to use a really old vodaphone dongle that was powered by little tiny mice lol.
