There are many ways to achieve this, without seeing the image it isn't possible for me to recommend the best one. To remove a solid colored background or foreground object you can use quick select, magic wand or color range. Quick mask mode will allow you to paint the object you want to remove then you can invert the selection and delete the background. Using the pen tool to create a path to convert to a selection is the best and most accurate way of selecting an object imo.
