A bit of sad news last week I learned my Great Grandma passed away at the age of 94, I swear I thought she would make it to 100. A bit sad, but not at all surprised. Anyways bout 10 years ago she asked me if I wanted anything from her house after she passed away. Not really thinking anything of it I pointed to a painting behind the couch in the family room. Little did I know I would inherit the said painting. Actually I ended up inheriting two. First one, which is the one I picked out was called High Glory by Wijmer. Don't know much about it, but it is old. I think it's from the early 1960's. The second one I can't find information on anywhere. Well maybe if I looked behind the painting I might find some info, but too lazy. Both are real nice. High Glory is a reproduction but the other is as far as I can tell original. It too could be a reproduction, but the texture it has kind of throws me off. Here are the two paintings.
100_1495.jpgThis is the High Glory one, which now is mounted on the wall behind my bed.

My condolences about your grandmother. The first painting looks pretty awesome, but I'm sure the photograph you took doesn't do it justice. I wouldn't know the artist that did the second, but perhaps if you take a closeup of the signature and do an image search online you might turn up something (just a thought).

I would need a much better camera to really do that painting justice, probably not even then. On the second one I've tried both a search of the artist name, which I can't really make out. Looks like it says Tony, but that really does no good. I did a image search on google and came up with nothing.

Hi hershy, nice story. My condolences too. Even when we anticipate a death, there is sorrow at the passing, no? I only hope to live to 94 years old. 100 would be nice for her, but I bet she wasn't disappointed at her longevity. Good news for you too.

Don't let this put you back in The WARD, lol.

As for the paintings, it's always fun to get an unexpected gift. But "old?" 1960s? OMG kiddo! Guess that makes Aunty Clare ancient stuff. Maybe not as antique as could be . . . My era is now called "Retro." Also the era of Abstract Expressionism. Yumm, DeKooning, Pollack, Rauschenberg, California's Diebenkorn, Frank Stella, photographer Henri Cartier-Bresson . . . Forgive my ramble.

If you really want to know about the painter and if whether it is truly a painting, take it to an appraiser. You'd be surprised by the knowledge that a credible, experienced one will have. Good chance they can identify the artist if he/she isn't an obscure painter. At the least you'll learn if it's an original painting or a reproduction.

That doesn't diminish the joy you can get from a work of art that you like. I would settle for good reproductions of any number of painters from many different eras, including some of the creative work of young artists on deviantarts.com and other sites. Oh to have a real Cezanne or The Green Stripe by Matisse. HOw about a Gustav Klimt? My list goes on and on. Would you kill for a real Vermeer? How many exist? 9 or something. Meantime, I settle for my own drawings and paintings and a few original lithographs (meaning the kind printed with stone and roller) and original etchings to decorate my walls. I even have a few of my own etchings and lithos from one of those "old" historical periods, the flower child/psychedlic/op art/Warhol era, but stuffed into a portfolio case. Amateurish even if they were part of my BA portfolio/exhibition.

OK, enough of my ancient history. Again, I am sorry for your loss; it's part of growing to experience grief and realization of love. Give gratitude every day for health, work, happiness, friends, and family, and from what you write, I know you do. This forum has been enriched by your participation and I think, so have you. Thanks for sharing your presents and presence and forgive my waxing a little sappy.

I think you need new glasses lol, callin me inkpad. Ok on to the other stuff. I got an answer about the painting, according to the "expert" it was out of his expertise. Would take it to an appraiser, but no car and not that important really. Unless it's worth like thousands of dollars, lol I kid even then I would still keep it. It's nice to finally have something on the walls of my apartment. Been here over a year and all the walls been bare untill recently. And yes things from the 1960's are old, well older than me. Then again I call those born in the early 1980's like I was old so yeah.

Oops, that's a redface! I knew that. IDK why I switched identities in the middle of the stream on you. Mind if I go back in and edit it? O/W inky will be on my case. The good news is that you don't have to worry about WARD 10; that's his domain!

Well age is relative you know. I may wish to 17 again (not really, tumultuous time for me though for some reason I am sentimental about it; first real bf maybe), but I still feel 38. Except my joints won't comply

I'm just happy for you that you love your new art.

I heard WARD 10 was where the party is, at least that's what the voices told me. I think I'd rather go back to my early 20's, living out in the Bay Area. Not is this hicktown down in the south. Being in my 30's isn't too bad, except for when I get a hair cut and hear "where did all this grey hair come from?" I dunno, stress? But yeah I enjoy my paintings.

Looks like i might have more freinds in this ward than i thought..:) ...

Don't worry.. i would not get on anyones case... It's enough trying to get my own case to close so i can get out of here... The only problem is by the time i finish putting the binding around the case i sem to be attached to it and carnt move.

Hopefully i will get posted with it and no one will notice... I try reverse engineer doing this but then realised i couldn't bound the case whilst inside it... so just just wrapped me self up in the hope i wouldn't be heard and stop me bouncing around.

After 12 hrs i was rather wet, hungry, and had to press the alarm button to get me self out of the mess i had put me in...

They sent me to the wash rooms. They said clean yourself up... Put everything in the washing machine then the dryers.. by the time i had finnished i looked like a fried chicken. I didn't realise they meant just the clothing.

Really like the art works you were given though. Hope you enjoy them..

See what I mean? Warped. :bustagut:

Hey, at least he devoted one sentence to the topic! My advice inko, stay in the straight jacket; you can't get in any trouble that way. Just make sure your fingers are out so you can use the keyboard. Kind of a twister huh.

:offtopic: thanks for the tolerance hershy. Here, have a dark chocolate bar. Picked it up when I went to Hershey, PA, last week. Uh huh. Me and my broom!

Dedicated to the subjet... ... I really do like the paintings. and I'm soory for loss... Hope you didn't mind me mucking around in that last post.

The first one reminds me of a German Artist called E.W.Honeff... he did land scapes and this looks very much like his... I once came accoss one of his paintings and tryed to search him on the net but did come up with anything realy.. But this was some yrs ago ..i might try again now?.

The frame and the way there is a little plaque at the bottom in the middle also reminds of the same frame the arts works i saw from the Greman Painter look the same.

I would try and see if you can research this painting.

The second one has a sig and i like that one to.. I would defenatly do research , if they woth some thing i would be looking at Insurance for them.

AQgain hope you enjoy the paintings and sorry for the loss of a loved one.

I've already come to accept that there are some crazy people in this forum, so I feel right at home lol. So yeah, not worries bout the previous post. The first painting by Wijmer probably isn't worth anything, it's def a reproduction. Considering it's really 50 years old, don't think it would be worth much. Could be wrong. The second painting is a bit tougher. I did a reverse image search on a few sites, each time getting back 0 results. I pay try to peak behind the painting to see if there is any info there. It very well could of been a local artist back home in the STL who did it and that's why I can't find information. Maybe I have a one of a kind painting? All I know is both these paintings were in my Great Grandma's house all my life. Maybe I should into some insurance anyways. Not just for the paintings, but for the whole apartment. Got some other cool stuff in here, that I know is worth some cash.

Only info on the back of the one painting is on where the frame was made, nothing about the painting it self

Even if the paintings a reproduction , the original may no longer exsist , this could possibly make your reproduction woth something, it might even be the only one in existance..

I'd keep looking untill your sure, If you want to that is...

I have insurance for the whole house and its contents.. you never know what is going to happen.. without it i probably would not be able at this moment in time be able to pay to replace anything.. i would be totaly lost without a PC if i had a house fire or it was stolen etc..

I even have fire alarms all over the house, every room and in the hall way. and a house alarm with sensors in every room.. Nothing wrong realy with where i live but you never know when those from the ward will pay you a visit..

Thanks for being understanding over mucking around...

I've considered getting renters insurance on my place, I can't afford to buy everything over again in case something does happen. But it all comes down to money, I got to think "can I afford this?". Often times that's a no, but supposedly I'm getting a raise soon. Been asking for one for over 2 years, so I'm not holding my breath. Who knows I may have paintings worth a fortune, if so how the hell did I end up with them?! Also got a couple of tiles there were hung up on the wall in my great Grandma's kitchen that came from a couple of trips her and my Great Grandpa took that I can't find any info on either.
