Hi Everyone!
I am new to this forum and I am also new to graphic design and photoshop. I am a sophomore in college and I just changed my major from fine art to graphic design. I am sure I will be on here looking for tips as I get more familiar with the program!
Anyone have an good general rules of thumb for new designers?

howdy cshawn, welcome to psg. Tip: google basic photoshop tutorial and get a knowledge of all tools used. Your understanding of these tools will come in handy, and you'll pick it up quicker.

Welcome, cshawn. There are many ways to get acquainted with PS.... buy a book, search for tutorials like the ones in the front page of PSG...Freelance Photoshop Jobs ? Photo Editing ? Stock Photos ? Photoshop Help.

But most important, don't stop when you learn a particular tutorial. Experiment with it, dv8 a bit. These tutorials act as an initial guide. By taking it a step higher, you learn or discover something new - something you will never find in any tutorial anywhere.

Thank you everyone.
I actually do have an inquiry to throw out there if anyone has any input. I was just assigned a project that is allowing us to use total artistic freedom in photoshop and I would really like to see if I can make a photo mosaic (like the ones on this website.) I like what Picture Mosaics does, but since this is a class assignment I obviously need to create this myself. I have always wanted to make a mosaic or collage with all the photos I have taken over the years and this seems like a good opportunity to do so and get a grade for it. Has anyone out there done something like this before on photoshop or is there other software out there that is you would need to use? If anyone here has made a mosaic with their photos, any feedback would be great or if you have any alternative ideas for a cool project if you are unfamiliar with mosaics.

Thanks!
Shawn
