So me and a friend are working on a site for my personal use. I know nothing about coding so I ask an old faithful friend to help me come up with a design.

The only thing I designed and chose was the layout, colour palette, logo and images.

Question is, is it worth going .com

I'm new to the whole web design so, any suggestions on changes will be cool.

I like the simplicity of the design, there's a few aspects you're missing if you're attempting to advance the site itself... In Web 2.0, social media integration is highly encouraged, and having the ability to search the site and having a site map can be of great utility. Those are modifications that the designer usually adds for the marketing team but they can be highly useful.

As for going .com, it is well worth it but that doesn't limit you to just .com for any reason. .com is associated with 'official' by most users, where as .net, and .org are thought of differently. I recommend having the top 3 for any website you own, especially if you monetize your SEO to have all .org and .net direct to .com.

For your bio and contact page, I would recommend having a contact form on your contact page and for the bio a personal photo, and a detailed layout. For the portfolio, I recommend having tags/descriptions for each of your images, again for SEO purposes.

Nice design, though, great start!

Hi Inkz...

Only my personal taste on the design of the site...agree with all the above but would add..

I would change the Bio button to say about, this incorporates info about both you and the company and not just a bio about yourself... people want to know about the company as well as you.

As far as having a dot.com ... I am not over keen on having a dot.net, dot.org. etc and having them redirect to a dot com. I always feel as though i have been trick in to being taken to a site that is a dot.com when i pushed the button on a Google search that was originally a dot.net, or dot.org. Why take me to a dot .com ?. just my personal point on this.

Work button... would make this a portfolio button... , portfolio tells me you have already done work and i can see what that is.

Make sure all images have an alternate text when putting them on the site .

If your going to have social media buttons which is a good idea you need to place them strategically on the page, you don't want people to detract from what you want them to do on your home page( get people to hire you ). I sometimes go to a site and get distracted and end up on face book or wherever and forget what i originally went to the site for. Placement depends on personal preference, also the size of the buttons.

Plugins.... have some anti spam plugins to stop people spamming your email from your contact page when its finished.

Also seo plugins.

Hope that's of some use to you... but most of all consult your designer.

Yes, great colors, very appealing to the eye. You could break the "work" button into two "portfolio", one completed and one current projects.
Purchase the .net and .org if you like, yet don't worry about them until you have your .com completely optimized. Then if/when you have the time and still do want to add ghost pages, make sure you rename everything and write new text, the big G doesn't like exact mirrors. Great way to go for a different market/key phrase.
