Hey guys, new user here! I've just started learning PS and I'd like to learn new things, make new friends and have fun in this community! Is there anyone that can give me advice on Displacement Maps? I have watched a video, on YouTube by Gavin Hoey and i tried that myself but the results arent good. Is it because of my choice of images to work on? They were the same size actually 800x600..... so can anyone help me out on this ? I wanna practice this so can u pls send me some image links. Thanks! Much appreciated!

Welcome, EddieSoe.

That happens whenever you give thanks to other members either by mentioning it in your replies or hitting the Thank icon on the lower left below the member's profile box in the post.

And you receive a thanks received whenever someone thanks you for a helpful reply to their post.

if you are referring to his union jack face paint 1 then that works better than the average displacenent as the face only has some contrasty features making it stand out more.

when creating your displacement file do it with a black and white adjustment layer not just image> adjustments desaturate.

this way you can tweak the color contrast more, the more contrast you have in this image the greated the displacement. Then you tweak around with the settings in the displacemebt filter to offset it etc.

Thanks for the warm welcome guys :)
I have a question I have posted in the Newbie forums, please check it out
