New to Photoshop; need help isolating a logo

Hi, Everyone,

I once taught myself how to use Photoshop in one night, but that was a few years ago. I am now trying to relearn it and need some help.

I am doing some marketing work for my boyfriend's company, and he doesn't have anything but a .bmp image of his logo. I know you are all going to make fun of me here! - but I scanned the image from his business card and am trying to cut the logo out of the white background. How can I do this, other than torturing myself with the lasso function? Photoshop is obviously seeing the image as one fill layer and I am having trouble. Is this even possible to accomplish?

HELP!!!

...and thank you in advance....

can you post the image? I'll see what I can do, and maybe i'll be able to tell you how to do it as well.

Will need to see the image and see how small things are. May need to recreate the logo which to be honest I am happy to have a go at if needed. Post it and lets see what's involved.
Also don't feel silly, we have all been there so will not be making fun of you.

OK, I was able to isolate the logo, but can't remember how I did it! Duh. The image itself needs sharpening, though, and the tree color needs to be solid. for some reason it didn't come out that way. any guidance you guys can give would be awesome! what are some good online tutorials I can do so I can refresh my memory?

Excellent, glad it's okay. The font is Arial Black with a stroke to 'fatten' it up a little. Also slightly transformed vertically to match as near as to your original image. I am sure there is a font that matches perfectly but this worked okay in the end.
