Well not really a kid, but new to photography and photoshop, after many years without a decent camera (my last SLR was way back in the 70's) I have just got myself a new DSLR (D3100) and managed to get photoshop CS5 and Lightroom 3 from a friend who did not like the feel of it, he has always used coral and just couldn't get his head around photoshop so gave it all to me for 1/2 what he paid for them,
So far I have been practacing by following tutorials on youtube, but they are limited in what they can teach so I am happy I have found this group, I'm sure you will help me lots as I stumble from one problem to the next

is there a printable list of short cuts for these programs?

I have not touched Lightroom yet and wonder if I even need it, but time will tell I guess.

I will mainly be doing landscape and low light photography I think, but also whatever I see that attracts me really, as my daughter likes having her picture taken I am sure there will be a good number of portrate photo's as well.

I go to the Carribean every other year and hope to get some good underwater pictures while diving, in the past I have used a compact with underwater case, but the pictures have been a bit hit and miss, hopefully the DSLR will change that :)

next time a Carribean trip comes up, think of us..........I'm sure most here wouldn't mind tagging along LOL
Welcome.enjoy the forums

dv8_fx, thanks for the link, I will print it off, that will save me lots of time

iDad, anyone is welcome to go to the Caribbean, but you would have to pay your own way.

I go to Belize so plenty of photo opportunities both in the sea and on the mainland. All the Mayan sites, the local people, their costumes and festivals plus all the wild life. In the past I have relied on a phone camera or a compact, and even they look pleasant so with my new toy I can only hope for some spectacular results, I have at least 14 months to get the hang of all the settings and how to get the best from my camera

I really want to be in Photography......but I do not have a good camera....by the way....which camera should i buy to start.?

70's SLR????? Ohhhh, the picker in me....

Do you still have it? Is that for sale?

Sorry, it was a victim of an underwater case failure, salt water ruined it :frown:

I had a Canon AE1 with a purpose built underwater perspex housing and on my second outing with it the case split along a seam, I got a refund for the case, but no compensation for the camera. :banghead:
