New here - question about editing a "kool-aid" mustache out of a photo :)

Hello all,

I have a rather cute picture of my daughters, but the problem is they both have a bright red kool-aid mustache on their upper lip. I have tried to edit it out, but have been very unsuccessful. I'm a self-taught photoshoper, but all the tricks I have learned have resulted in rather unnatural looking results.

Can anyone give me tips on what they might do to correct the problem?

well if it is 1 of the obvious colors red, blue, green etc then make a quick selection around the moustache as to speak and click a new hue saturation adjustment layer and target the color channel so if it was red choose red and reduce it using the sliders.would be my guess without seeing the picture

One way is to use the clone tool on a new layer to clone the surrounding clean upper lip areas.

Zoom in close for a good view and select a small brush size ( half the height of the upper lip area) and set the tool at 40% strength and in airbrush mode. When using it on the layer, use with a single, quick click of the mouse. Dont hold it down so long. Create the lip area gradually 9covering the stain areas) changing the clone source as you go along.

When completed, carefully delete unwanted areas with a soft setting eraser.

Thanks so much for the help! Here is the picture. I hope this comes through well enough for you to see what I mean.

Thank you, Channae! I love what you've done! You definitely know what you are doing.

Now I need to know how you edited her hand to make it look so natural. ;)
