I have an image that I like, but the background is not so.....can someone tell me how I can fix this?
Also, how do I post an image here? I'm so lost... ;(

Hi Terri, I moved your thread to a more appropriate forum.

let's address the image posting first.

Look at the upper right hand area of the reply window and you will see the "insert image" icon, click on this and then choose your image, then click upload.

After you post your image, we'll get to your other problem.

It's a good habit to refresh your page every so often to check for replies.

Ok, so now what were you saying about the background? You want to change it?

Ok, do you want to be instructed on how to do this on your own or do you want someone else to do this for you?

Sure, before we get started there is one small issue I see that may cause some problems, the fabric is very transparent and the BG is showing through, it will be problematic.

What is your experience level with Photoshop and what version do you have?

Ok Terri, we have everything we need. I must also explain that this may take a while so patience will be much appreciated. I really hope that your not under a deadline.

As I pointed out, the transparency of the fabric will be a challenge. For me personally, I'm going to have to experiment to see what will work for that area. In the meantime, hang out and hopefully someone else will come along with an idea!

I'm also going to get you some links to tutorials that will help you to learn how to remove BG's.

brb.

I would blur any detail in the fabric until it just looks like plain fabric, then make a layer mask and gently delete the fabric so the new background shows through and feather the mask.

Bit like this but spending a bit more time on it.

Great outcome Spruce, but call me brain dead, I'm not following your explanation at all.....

Thanks Spruce, that really is a great idea! (I finally figured out what you meant)

I first removed the (or hid) the building in the fabric using the Healing Brush Tool......

Then I slightly blurred the lighter more transparent areas of the blowing fabric with the Blur Tool.
I then added a layer mask and used the Brush Tool, with the flow set to 1% and the color to black, to bring back some transparency.
