This is not a proper intro....for someone who's new here...but, I'm desperate. Sorry.
Hey y'all! I am so glad someone at Wet Canvas pointed me here. I am frustrated and could use some help pweeeeeze!
I pulled a dummy and threw away my Adobe Photoshop LE file. Thinkin' it was just fine cuz I got the CD (it came with my WACOM). I thought I would make room for my new (to me) Adobe Photoshop 5.5..
Jeeze! Trying to keep this short.
Well, 5.5 prooved to be too much of a memory drag on my ol' i-MAC 8.6 (upgraded). So, I threw that away too![saywhat]
Thank goodness I've got the serial # for that one at least.
O.k., here's the prob.....I did NOT log in the serial # in my ~putor log book:( .....and e-'d WACOM to retrieve it from their archives.
They told me that my WACOM tablet is old and now outdated. They do not have an archive of serial #'s. [confused] [upset] .
Can anyone help me? A friend told me to look into my registry HD....but, still could not find.
Thank you sooooo much!
jana

:D WOOOPEEE! Hi! Linda! So delightful to find you here! Was it YOU who posted this site of Pshop Gurus at WC?
I'm still struggling with this darn prob!:{ Haven't heard from WACOM yet after my last e-mail telling them that "you can't just leave me hangin' like this".....guess I pissed 'em off.[saywhat]
Well, we'll see.
tootles noodles,
jana:D

There have been several refs to this site over there since they started with the manip forum. I am really glad to see you here! This is a great board with lots of wild and crazy guru's!! I am sure one of the mac users can direct you on searching your registry for the lic number. I assume Mac's are like pc's and store the snot out of every in the reg, even when you tell it to uninstall! Hang around and join in the many challenges they have here. You will have a blast!!:righton: :D

Welcome aboard plumpfairy! ;) Aaack! I can appreciate your frustrations! Hang in here until one of our Mac "techies" reads about your problem. I have no doubt, that one of them will sort you out. In the meantime, cruise around and have a few laughs! :bustagut: And, for sure, if you're so inclined... join in on the fun! :righton:

:D Thank you wbiss, and Linda for your warm welcome! YAY!
I sure hope someone here can come up with somethin'! I sure would be grateful!
Haven't re-installed 5.5 (just too much of a memory hog)....so I haven't been able to do any art for 2 days now.:{ .
Thanks again!
jana;) :D
oh! and I love these smilies....sooo cute!

Ahhhh... great links plumpfairy!:righton: There truly isn't a more beautiful sight...;) Thanks for sharing! :D

If you have any kind of document that prooves that you bought a wacom tablet withwhich you got PS5LE, then I'm shure Adobe will get you a new serial. Besides: this serial can be found on the back side of the plastic box in which you keep your original CD. If you lost that one, then how will you install it again???
Besides: it is strictly forbidden to give your serial to someone else.

Hey, yep Adobe should provide a serial # for it. You will need to provide proof of purchase for the tablet. My understanding is she lost the case but has the cd only. I don't know Mac so I can't say if the serial # is still in the reg like with windows. Maybe one of the Mac guys can help you with a command to search your reg for the serial number. I know when I uninstalled my photoshop to trouble shoot, the serial # was still in the reg but I have a pc. [stuned]

:D Y'all are FABULOUS!
Thank you vee, Linda, sfm, wbiss, and Erik!;)
Those of you who viewed the links......wasn't that awesome?

Erik, thank you for taking the time to respond. I no longer have the boxes of any of my software.....put all the CD's in a soft CD holder for the big move from HAWAII back to the mainland (had to consolidate ya know). [oops] I am not a ~putor genious.....didn't know that the IMPORTANT NUMBERS WOULD BE ON THE BOXES for cryin' out loud! JEEEZE! I'm a pumpkin head.
I've only had my ~putor for 2-3 years and at the time of throwing away the boxes[confused] I had no idea how important the data was printed on them.:{

So, now I have to contact ADOBE and see what I can find out.
I appreciate your help.
thanks,
jana:D

Know that I do believe you, and that I find it a difficult situation. But did you consider putting some more memory in your mac? If you've got the serial of 5.5, then you can register it at Adobe and join the PS forum, and post your problem there. Another option is to contact a mac forum and ask what can be wrong.
I do know that PS is a RAM vampyre, but did you ever defrag your HDD? Did you ever look at how much RAM you have in one block (Finder, About this computer,...)? I can't believe PS5.5 can't work on OS8.
What kind of mac do you have? G3, or older? In fact, you need 128MBRam.

I find it hard to believe that 5.5 won't work for you, I used to run 5.5 on my old puter with only 64 megs of RAM at it ran just fine [confused] I now have a new machine with 384 megs and run PS 7

Hey Erik!
Thank you again for taking the time to reply here. Yep! Been talkin' to some tecky folks (one being my brother) about installing more memory (my bro is a PC guy, and has to ask his MAC buddy at work about the memory)
I have 96mb avail.
And, no, I don't think I have de-fragged (?). But, I have ZAPPED the PRAM a few times.....if that means anything, I don't know.
"PS is a RAM vampyre"....too funny!:D Linda calls it a "MEMORY HOG"!:D
I have an i-MAC OS 8.6 (upgraded).
I CAN run the Adobe Photo. 5.5, but, it drags after about 10mb (in image size that I'm workin' in.).
I will keep all posted as to any progess.
thank you again Erik,
jana
:D ;)

plumpfairy, I'm not sure if this will work, but it's worth a try, IF the PS LE has the application you can drag to your hard drive (not just an installer). If it does: Go to System Folder > Preferences, look for Adobe Photoshop LE. If you haven't thrown that away too it will still be there, even though you've deleted the app itself. Drag the application from the CD to your iMac's hard drive. Then, double click on the Preferences file; it should open LE. When it does, go to your Apple menu > About Photoshop LE and you should see your serial # there; normally it resides in the prefs file.

Of course, if the CD has only an installer, this won't work. But I agree that you should get more RAM; it's cheap now, and PS 5.5 is a LOT more flexible than LE. My favorite place for RAM is Datamem. You can get 256 megs for about $45, depending on your iMac model.

Another thing you can try with PS 5.5: Increase the memory alotment for Photoshop. To do that in 8.6: Click on the applications icon; make sure it's the original icon, not an alias, and make sure the app isn't running. From the Finder, go to File Menu > Get Info and choose Memory (or just Cmd-I on the keyboard and select Memory for the popup menu). You'll see Suggested Size (which is non-editable), Minimum size (editable, but don't change that), and Preferred size which is what you want to change. Bump it up by about 10,000K to start with. Launch Photoshop, play around, see what happens. You really should be able to run 5.5 with the amount of RAM you have, unless you work on huge file sizes.

Good luck, and let us know how you do!

:D Dear Dear Dear Applecider!
You da bestest! I will absolutely try all that you suggested! Thank you, and everyone here for your fabulous help!!!! YAY!

I have an update.....been off-line off and on for about 2-3 days now.....pulled another 'dummy'!
Long story, but I'll try and shorten it...
went to re-install AIM instant messenger the other day so's I could yak with my brother (at his request....kool!)......and, well, I totally screwed up all my preferences and codes and junk....
spent hours on the phone with EARTHLINK, AOL, AIM.....mostly on hold...GRRRR!
Well, finally got all the dial-up numbers and junk back on track...PHEW!
Anyway, I figgered it out MY SELF!....by accident really.:\
I had gone into EXTENSIONS MGR. [oops] ....and un-clicked the LAUNCHER for AIM.
Then went to my AIM messenger icon in my menu bar, expecting that if I sign-on it would automatically LAUNCH my dial-up....NOT![innocent]
So, now I have learned more about the guts of my ~putor. I have to dial-up FIRST!....then sign-on AIM. duh![stuned]

I am writing all this cuz, just in case someone out there needs it....someone at my usage level.:D

:D Hidy ho Rick!
Thank you for your reply. Well, 5.5 does work, it just bogs down alot. How did you manage to get it to work for you so smoothly with only 64mb? Do tell your secrets[honesty] .
jana:D ;)

Dear Applecider,
Well, I tried to do as you suggested, and no worky. I loaded the LE CD and there was an icon/file for Photoshp LE, I dragged it into my HD, but, no preferences avail. Only a little register icon sitting there.:{ *sigh*

So, I have yet to re-install 5.5 to change the memory to 10,000k.
Waiting for my bro to send me a "memory doubler" (don't have a clue as to what THAT is)....should be recieving it this AM or sometime this week. Crossing fingers and toes.

Also, I STILL need to go to ADOBE site and see if they can give me a serial for the LE. (just in case the memory doubler doesn't work or the 10,000k thing).[confused] [innocent]

I am learning alot, as usual, with all this mess. Allways do when I fall into the rabbit hole.[innocent]
Thank you for your help,
jana:D ;)
