i've been working on this pic and came to this result .

girl_white_dress_zpsb9068d64.jpg

i've still think it can be improved but i am kinda stuck how i can do it .
maybe some pro's can give me a few tips ?

Countless way to improve, it's totally up to the renderer, it's totally an individuals taste of what you can imagine.

Dad answered quite well...We all have our own likes /dislikes.

I like the mood conveyed, but the opacity of the gown takes away from the image IMHO

I would darken the sky and the gown, but I really don't know where I will end up :runaway::runaway:

I agree with iDad.

I think your shadow from the woman and dress is too strong. Pull it way back. I would leave the lighting alone in the main image. Add or enhance the color in the midground clouds and the Planet. The lighting on the planet is a bit off, light the edge facing the sun and darken the back half just a tad more. (backlight)

Nice work! It's already leaning towards the dark side, so don't let it get any darker! In fact I would also try to enhance the suns affect on the ground plane, but only slightly. Be subtle with your adjustments.

edit: I just saw something else. You have a dark glow like effect (shadow?) around the edge of the dress, try making this a light warm glow instead. Also, the ground plane to our left is much darker than that of our right. You may try to even these out a bit.

Overall, I like the image, the idea is good. I agree with most of the above. I actually do like the transparency except that I think it should be over less of an area than it is now. It could be more subtle and IMO therefore more effective.

What really does stick out, not in a good way, is the shadow which is not only on the dress but around the whole model. It is very artificial and does not work. It looks like a drop shadow layer effect. I agree with Sam that a glow would be better, but I think nothing at all would be best, neither glow nor shadow.

Also, the shadow from the woman may be too strong, but I think mainly it is angled wrong with the sun being over her left shoulder and above. Look at the shadows cast by the rocks.

I must say, for someone who just started playing around with Photoshop, I am impressed. You have a good eye and a love for one of my favorite PS pass times, manipulations. Keep up the good work!

You created a very nice image Jimmy, thank you for sharing it here.
I agree what all the others said, but i hope my sincere critique will help you to improve your PS work.

I think the real problem is the dress and the material blowing away to the left of the girl. The color should be more neutral and lighter, I can see yellowish, pinkish and dark grey colors, and in the fabric I can see sky, water, grass, stones, castles shining through. Maybe this was your intention, as the rock pieces flying from the dress suggest. But all this is very interfering and not pleasing the eye of the viewer, and maybe this is the main reason you are not happy with your image.

I guess you worked many hours on this image. But still, if I where you, I would keep this image as it is, but start a new one. I like the foreground and the model. Find yourself an image of some "blowing wavy fabric" to blend with the model. Maybe use a darker sky too. It helps to make the dress stand out a little more.

I disagree with chris on this one. The original idea of having the windblown dress being transparent and revealing a once flourishing city and sea in an otherwise desolate wasteland is tremendous! Stick with it! It tells the story.

ok first of all thx for the responses . now just to clarify some stuff (didn't explain myself to well ) i didn't make the picture in the background (i wish i could but my ps are nowhere near that skilled ). the only thing i did is transform the dress and put in the picture . it's a asignment for my school i need to make . the story behind the picture is exactly what iamsam said , the before and after .

as for the tips i got i am gonna go over them all this evening and see what i come up with . i must say this is one of the best forums i've been on to get some tips and to get more out of ps . really thx for that
