As a favour to someone who's emailed me, i need as many folks as possible to please go and test out this new search engine site: www.nerdbyte.com

It's a "photoshop tutorials" specific search. So just enter the type of tutorial you're looking for, and hit SEARCH. Like 'glass', or 'metal', or 'rust', or 'plugins', etc...

Try the "Advanved" search too.

Then post back here your thoughts, and how you think it worked for you.

I'll email the person ;) back and see if i can get them ;) to come visit us to talk more about it. I've tried it and i think it works great. A lot of links in the database so far.

Thanks guys! :righton:

B7 Cool! And what a *fab* idea!!!! :D Yes, it worked just fine for me, Mark. ;)

I've been a programmer for many years, so you could say that I have an eye for errors.

He can probably remove the word Beta after I'm done :bustagut:

Just give me some time ;)

As far as I know, Kai's PowerTools 5 was and is still one of the best known plugins.
I tried KPT5, KPT 5, Kai's Powertools 5, Kais Power Tools 5,... no match.

I tried Fractal Explorer, and got a link to the texture Explorer from KPT3.

Still some work to do...

Gave it pretty good try Mark and most things worked quite well - I could not get a result for Gold Text and I tried to search using the name eyecandy and came up blank. But for the most part it worked well.

Hi everyone. Thanks for testing it out for me. A few thing:

-I am a girl ;)
-the search results now returns anything photoshop related including tutorials
-it uses htdig and I leanred how to tweak the script where it will index other sites in specific directories
-it indexes certain to prevent non-photohsop content from showing and the provent the engine from spidering things such as forums (I made the mistake of this and it was stuck on one site for 6 hours! and made htdig error to where it showed no index for anything)
-Gaussian, what type of errors are you talking about?

Thanks a bunch for the feedback you guys. It really helps.

Tia

Welcome to the forum nerdbyte! :D
I am a girl
In that case, a big welcome! :D :D There's a few of us who hang out here! ;)

I'm a fan of Gurus Network. In their tutorial section, they use a java drop-down menu.

So I went to this search engine and typed in "displace".

I ended up with almost every GN tutorial listed because of the drop-down menu. I'm not sure, but I imagine that's not good.

Hey thanks a lot for helping with this everybody.
Man we've got a gr8 bunch here! :righton:

nerdbyte...
Dang, sorry bout the gender snafu! DOH! [doh]
Didn't know... now we do... all is well'n'good again.

Cool! :D

I tested the search and the advanced search and it kept finding everything I typed in :bustagut: :bustagut: :bustagut:

then I started to use obscure words...... still found them until....... I typed in straw! :D he he he no tutes or anything could be found for straw

when typing in some of the words it found it as part of another word.... would be good to be able to click something like............. "find as whole word only" or something like that other wise it works it's good and well done :righton:

I like it, I like it, I like it, :righton: ... I like girls too :D ;\

Sue...

You try surrounding your word(s) with quotes?
Doesn't work for all search engines, but might work in this one. ;)

Heya Nerdbyte... just curious...
How are you compiling this list of results that people get when they search for something? Are you actually "manually" adding urls to a database? Or is this being done more automated like?

I'm asking because it would appear that no matter what subject word i search with, i seem to get pretty much the entire Gurusnetwork list of tutes in the results; every time. Some times i get the "cbtcafe.com" site... but not very often. And those are pretty much the only 2 i've seen thus far.

Is Gurusnetwork directly/indirectly involved with your search engine site?
Just wondering... 8[ [oops]

no they're not affiliated at all. i'm manually adding directories but the engine does the rest. can you list what keywords you are talking about. let me list what site you're supposed to be getting results from:

one of their tutorials (guru's network) is rust, i looked under rust and more than guru comes up.

can you make a list of keywords as you come across them that you're tlaking about please

Tia

nope sorry Mark..........

Straw

"straw"

no tutes on straw :bustagut: :bustagut: :bustagut:

I always do searchs with the "" Mark as it helps to define the search, will keep checking tho :righton:
