Need Help with CMYK

I need to create some "generic" backgrounds to be used in other applications (InDesign, Illustrator) that can be specified to certain CMYK percentages.

In Photoshop, I create a file in RGB and using the default B&W, render clouds. Then I use various filters and create the backgrounds I want. I convert these backgrounds to CMYK.

What I need to do is make the (converted RGB) "black" backgrounds to be specific CMYK percentages. I have tried to create an adjustment layer and then using selective color, but it's not accurate at all.

Any suggestions on how to do it? Thanks

Hi Habbakuk

When you convert a RGB color space file to a CMYK space, photoshop automatically assigns the color values for each channel, depending on which CMYK profile you are using (US Web coated v2, Us sheetfed uncoated v2, etc.)

You can always add adjustments layers like curves to increase independent values to each channel, also as reference, you ca open your color channel info "F8" or Window>INFO, so you can see the percentage of color that has been assigned to every channel, and use this as reference to tweeak your adjustment layer palette ans settings.
