need help turning off auto masking of adj layers in cs4...

I need to do the following in photoshop cs4 extended edition

I need to be able to add an adjustment layer without photoshop cs4 automatically adding the default white layer mask that photoshop adds by default.

in cs, cs2 and cs3 all i needed to do to permanently turn off the automatic adding of a layer mask with an adjustement layer was to right click on the flyout menu in the layers pallet and click on pallet options. then just uncheck the "use default masks on adjustments option."

I have went in the the layers menu flyout menu and into the panel options and turned off the option "use default mask on fill layers" I have tried this in photoshop cs4 but the default white layer mask is still added.

is this option to turn off the automatic adding of a layer mask on an adjustment layer hidden under some other menu.

right click your layer on layer palette, see dropdown menu pick remove background layer..bingo

just set it it will stay till you change it back

Hi idad.

no to above reply, and to the first reply....

right clicking on the layer mask or the actual layer thumnial does not bring up the menu item "remove background layer" there is a disable layer mask option - thats no good.

if i want to delete the layer mask i can simply drag it to the trask icon within the layers pallet. I need photoshop to stop adding a default white layer mask to every adjustment layer i create. I need an adjustment layer with no layer mask atall.

My workflow actions which are critical for my day to day work will not work in photoshop cs4 keeps creating default layer masks each time a new adjustment layer is added.

just try the following yourself.

1. open up a photo.
2. add an adjustment layer, say a levels one will do.
3. now do you see the "white mask" that photoshop has added to the levels adjustment layer thats the thing i need to stop photoshop from automatically doing every time i need an adjustment layer.

found it.

make sure no layer is selected and go to the adjustment palet - just click the flyout menu and uncheck "add mask by default"

now i can sleep.
