Need help improving making effects

I think its about time for me to expand my photoshop world.

I have been using photoshop for about a year and still can't do cool effects such as...







I tried looking up tutorials but idk exactly what to look up can't just look up photoshop tutorial..

Anyways that's kinda somthing I wanna learn to do it's a banner im working on for a game.

And yes I do know about blending options.

Then you are sorted if you understand blending options mate, show us some of your work not others so we can gauge your level of ability and maybe help you through this.

Yeah I know about blending options but I can't make cool effects like the pictures up there. Like how the guy is fading away and black smoke comming slowly and the text and stuff is so cool



This is just simple pictures just slapped on top of each other very generic.
With simple blending options a little stroke drop shadow and that's it.

Maybe a better image as that sort of thing is not wanted here.

I told you already it's for a very violent game known as Grand Theft Auto.

And I spend most of my art making stuff like that. And idk what's wrong with that because if you think its a gang or somthing so is the first image on the beginning of the post LOL thought I should let you know that if you didint
