Need Help Getting Same Effects as in This Image

I would like to re-create the effects used in this image, and have no idea how to do this. Would it be possible to create this in photoshop or do I need 3D modeling software?

I have been trying but I can't seem to get my shapes to look that three-dimensional. Also, how do I get these types of effects with color and texture? The color effect that is used in the triangle I would especially like to replicate.

primarily this is done in a 3d software but it can be done in photoshop as well (if you can spend a great number of hours on it), unfortunately i dont have any idea which 3d software to use for this either illustrator would work or go in a different direction and use 3d max.
