Hello everyone! First time posting on the forums. Loving it so far.

I'm an exotic automobile photographer in the Houston area, and I edit tons of photos of mine a day.

New challenge, me trying to change a background. I'm having trouble doing so.

Any way someone can change the background behind the green Ferrari in the picture? I was thinking in the middle of a rural road or something similar. Making it look very realistic as if it was there.

Thank you so much!

- Michael

(Also, is there any good tutorials out there explaining how to change backgrounds?)

hey mate im new too , so at risk of giving you the wrong info ill take a stab

select the green farrari taking time to select well , use refine edge as well , save the selection

open up a backround pic of your choice , google images have heaps depends what your after download it and open

merge the two pics , if you drag both pics off the bar at the top and then drag the ferrari selection onto your new backround

now ive given that advice just off memory to test my knowledge as ive been only using photoshop a little over a week

thought id give it a quick go for practice , took about 5 minutes , obviously if you were going to use the photo then a lot more blending etc would go into it but its good practice with layers and backrounds doing a few

any thoughts on blending techniques fellas id appreciate as a newbie , i know about refine edge but i have to refine my knowledge on it lol

Shadows are none existent, the car lighting does not match the scenery, the scale is slightly off, over all good effort thanks for sharing.

yeah it wasnt meant to look real or good , just to show a backround change in five minutes , i was pleased i actually got it done without referencing anything lol , im starting to find my way around photoshop now

cant wait for a few years more of knowledge

shadows are what ill have too keep in mind for sure

And that you achieved mate, we all start at the beginning if you did save the files add shadows and adjust the lighting (more practice).
At least you have had a go mate, good on ya.

wow, thank you for the tips egosbar. i did basically what you did, and did it. i worked on this photo for nearly an hour, trying to perfect shadows, lighting, etc. could anyone give me constructive criticism on what can be improved? i'm really proud of myself for changing the background on this photo, it's something i'm doing from now on. here's a before and after shot of a ferrari 458 italia i shot.

excellent job , i think spot on mate , really pleased that the advice was simple and worked, its really easy to put the backround in , making it look real is the fiddly part , again very good job on that one

cars are good to work with , nice defined lines to select image , fur and hair are tricky

you should take the image i done and try to match the lighting on the car and add shadows that will test you to see if you can blend it to look real

ok i tried to add a shadow and couldnt do it , made new layer and tried right click add drop shadow nothing happened , so i selected the area under the car and darkened it using a brightness layer , then i made a new brightness layer and tried selecting under the front of the car with the lasoo tool but it keeps saying no pixels are more then 50% selected the selection areas will not be visible , can someone help me here please

even though a little dark the light definitely matches better to the backround then the first quick attempt

love learning new things and i think photoshop will keep me going for years lol
