Hi guys!
I am Akshan. I am 22, from India. I am a newbie graphic designer. Though I was taught a bit of photoshop & illustrator in college, I didn't learn a lot aesthetically.
Also, I am not very creative. I can think stuff up, but when it comes to putting it down on paper, I fail. These were the reasons why I was unable to get into the leading design studios of the country, I guess.
So I was reading this article on how to become a better designer. And it suggested to "Be a part of the designing community". So I joined DeviantArt. Will link you up later.
However, though people were favouriting my work, I wasn't getting any critiques as such. So I thought of joining fourms where people actively participate.
I just googled "photoshop forums" & "design forums". Found many sites but liked this one because of the vast amount of content you got here. :)
So well, here I am, newbie among the pros hoping to learn a lot. I am trying to get into this design college, the very best in India. Hanging out here will prepare me for the exams & interviews for the college.
I love: photography (I don't own a DLSR, just a Canon digicam but I am relly passionate about taking pictures), gaming, listening to music (all the time!) watching movies and typography.
Annnd I guess I have bored you guys a lot. Don't think anyone will even read so much haha.
Hope to be hearing from you too!
- Akshan (you can also call me axn. It's short for my name, kind of rhymes with it plus my priest baptised me as Action haha )

Hello Akshan and welcome to Photoshop Gurus!
Of course, we would be very happy to help you out as much as we can and I think there are a number of active designers here who can help you with constructive critique on your work.
Deviant Art is a great community - no doubt - but I think it lacks when it comes to discussing the pieces presented. Take my very good friend and one of the most talented Digital Artists solely using Photoshop in Sweden today - Cindy Grundsten: Dezzan's Gallery
She can get up to hundred-plus comments on a piece, but most of them are in the category "Great work!". Nothing more. So, she keeps asking me for opinions. DA keeps you busy in many ways but not with what you have wanted, in my opinion.
Photoshop Gurus have become a great place over the last 6 months or so and it's picking up speed, so the best way to participate is to contribute.

Btw, where in India are you living ? I've had my eye on Palolem in Goa for a while as a holiday resort. Perhaps in the close future to spend our winter time in. I'm growing more and more tired of snow, sub-zero temp and ice allover the place ...

Welcome axn, enjoy PSG it's a great place for info and some of the best members on the web.

Thanks guys :")
DKJ, I am currently in New Delhi. I was in Goa with my pals last December as a matter of fact. I am not a big fan of the seas but Goa was out of this world! I LOVE winters. Maybe we should trade places haha :D
I saw Cindy Grundsten's gallery. Her work is stunning! It's true though that a lot of talent is wasted on dA but many good design blogs & sites hunts for artwork on dA to feature on their sites. One could get recognition this way :")

>I LOVE winters. Maybe we should trade places
Be careful what you whish for there, Akshan ... /lol/. We just had another 2 inches of snow and shovelling the stuff quickly becomes tedious.

> but Goa was out of this world!
That's how I've pictured it too and since the province have managed to improve on it's reputation it is becoming more and more interesting for me. Our winters begin shortly after the rain season in Goa ends so the timing couldn't be better. Just a 12 hour flight away ...
