First of all, I'd like to say that our style of photography/photoshop is not for everyone. Not everyone will like it. It is heavy on the photoshop side. I would say that the style we are going for is: Surreal

The reason I'm here, is because I want to advance to the even MORE surreal, into the realm of fine art.

Given the preface, I hope you enjoy the following photos, which are a mish mash of images with diffent photoshop applied. :-)

These are excellent. Each image has a character of its own.

I have to admit , my eyes are bad... lol... but your retouch method focuses on the main subject very well.

I like the last one, as well as the couple and the group of men with modified backgrounds.

Well done.

It may be your professional secret but can you share a few tips on your technique with a tute or two?

First of all, thank you for your kind words.

Yes, of course I will give some tutes. I know that in order to learn from others, I also need to give. That's why I love this forum so far. There is a lot of giving and challenges here.

Is there any certain images that you would like tutes from? Like I said, most are extremely photoshop heavy, and I'm using a full arsonel!

Thanks again.

Nice pictures it is good to see photographs with proper lighting and switiching there cameras to manual modes.

Just out of curiosity I am looking at getting a portable strobe set up I would say you have a good setup at the moment I am only using speedlights with soft boxes and shoot through brollies but looking at some of yours I would say you have a beauty dish or am I wrong.

Anyway what strobes are you using I am looking at the ranger 2 light setup I want to keep stuff simple and easy to transport.

If it's not time consuming on your part, I'm interested in image 7 of your first post.

I like the effects you used on that. Not that I plan to use it on a photo image but on a render output from a 3d model scene.

We use a few lighting systems. (Some of these are just speedlights or on camera). However our main system is using Elinchome Ranger RX. We use a range of filtering systems, depending on the circumstance.

I'm not sure how easy they are to transport, because I don't carry the gear, but I know that we have them on wheels!

And yes, I alwaysalwaysalways shoot in manual.

Thank you for the kind words.

I don't think that I still have the RAW on that. Could you send me a photo that I could recreate it on?

oh and very creative with the picture dv8 is referring too I like the idea of flash being used at slow shutter speeds but what iso would that be 800+ it gives a dreamy effect are you shooting handheld in that 1.

I normally go for shutter speeds of 1\125 - 1\250 with flash as to under expose enviroment and ambient lighting but still get a sharp image never even thought about using flash like this to get a soft focus almost blurry image I really like the idea going to have to get a volounteer now to try it out. do you know your settings for that image I am assumung shutter 1\30 ??? iso 800 flash maybe 1\2 power aperature maybe 6 or 7 or do you need a highe aperature to get more ambient light in.

Hi,
It's an older image, but basically this is the setup. I'm not sure of the settings, but by looking at it, I can guess:

Speedlight behind the bride, at her stomach area.
Ranger in behind camera.
Settings most likely around 4.5 ap, 125 shutter, 800? iso.

The rest of the shot was acheived via digital light painting, digital color enhancements, dodge, burn, Boutwell's magic glasses, and Lord of the Rings for Everyday.

I have over 7 terabites of stored work, but most of it is just the final files. I'd be happy to work with some of yours, do a tutorial, and explain why I do, when I do.

You guys seem like a wonderful bunch!

If you have your original image even if converted to jpeg you should be able to get your camera settings by opening it up in Bridge not sure if it needs to be the raw file or not

actually it does it even from these images you must have embed meta data turned on How I love digital technology lol

If this data is correct you were ahead of your time in the creative side to shooting lol this style is only just starting to takje of even now 5 years later.

ulp... I'm not into photography so I didn't know the image was a pure shoot.

I haven't done the render yet. still finishing the scene, adding a few more objects and adjusting the lighting.

I'll bookmark this thread and post the image when its done .... in a few days I would say.

Thanks for posting the metadata because I was just going off of memory and it's been awhile!

While our type of work is not for everyone, we have been able to garner a nitch market that has kept us in business for a decade when we saw many GREAT photographers go out of business. I believe the reason is that we work the photos to hell and back to make them different than what is readily available.

And I'm wanting to trick them out even more!

At the end of the day, I want a client to say that they can't find this stuff anywhere else. Will I be booking 100 wedddings a year? No. But I'll be booking a majority of the arty client who wants a surreal look. And they will pay a decent amount.
