Hi Jesse.
What you create is dependent on what image you imagine in your head. I don't see any mistakes with regards to what your asking for.
But as a suggestion, decrease the saturation of the background in your first image to make the main subject/object stand out more.
With the second (furious), soften the background with blur in order to increase the focal point and emphasize the creature.
Image 3 and 4 are fine to me.
Keep it up.

just a opinion as a on looker .. i think the 2 and 4 th image could have their background transparency tuned down a bit
and also wen u are makinga wallpaper of cartoon heros... i wud prefer to have them brighter or shiny and centralised than the rest of image i believe its gives them more appeal..plus some motion blur on outlines could spice things up..but yeah only if thts wat u had in mind
