had a go at blending photos, I think I okay for my first try any criticisms?

If this is your first try I am impressed. What you should always keep in mind when doing manipulation is the direction of light. As you can see the mountains have shadows which suggest that the sun should be coming from the right. Also I think the edges of the mountains are slightly soft but that's just me being picky. Overall I think it's turned out very well :-)

I couldn't agree more about the light issue, I started off with a different background and started playing around with lightning but it just didn't work out so it does look slightly odd now, I must have used the blur tool by accident on the sides I can see what you mean, thanks for the compliment :-)
