Me again with another noob question

In the tutorial I'm watching , the guy picks 2 colours off his reference and then he uses a sort of line tool that he drags from the canvas , off the canvas and it fills the canvas with different tones between the 2 colours selected . What is this tool ?

It's a gradient. There's a tool in under the paint bucket.
