Manipulating text over crumpled paper texture?

Hey everyone. I've run into a bit of trouble on a project I'm working on, so I was hoping I could pick your brains for a just a moment.

Put simply, I need to create the effect of crumpled paper WITH text on it. The image should look like somebody typed a letter on a typewriter, and then crumpled it up and opened it up again.

It's easy enough to do the crumpled paper effect, but I'm having difficulty making the text conform to the myriad creases of the crumpled paper, so that it looks like the text actually was crumpled (because, after all, the text is now part of the paper).

I have tried a bunch of blending methods, but am having no luck. Do you think this might be a manual warping job? Or is this really an easy fix and I'm just having a brainfart?

(Sorry, this is my first time here and I'm not allowed to post an image or link so I can't give you a visual example of what I need!)

Anyway, much thanks for reading this and for any advice or directions.

Spence
