Like some of you might know is that selecting a window inside Photoshop (or any other application) and pressing Alt+Print, will copy a screen shot of this window to the clipboard for later use in Photoshop or any other program.

It happened to me a few times in the past that pressing ALT+print in Photoshop copied the whole screen instead of a single window.
I've found the reason why. If you make a window active by clicking on the top bar, you will copy the whole screen, even if you press ALT+print.
Instead, click somewhere else other then on this top bar (attachment)

thanks Gaus.......... I have found myself clicking on the menu bar only to go doh!.......... it's the screen print one! :bustagut: :bustagut: :bustagut:

B7 Thanks G-Man! ;)

;\ I confess that I've been clicking where you've indicated and have been "pissed off" 'cause my layer menu wasn't included (i.e. the whole screen)... now I know why! :D

[confused] Takes somebody like me to do it half-assed backwards...

Great tute, Gaussian, I always thought I had to purchase a screen capturing program to do it ;\

print screen for windows

I keep hitting alt and "print Scrn" button..but nothing happens... what am I doing wrong? Where does it get saves for later use in a program?

Tanya

tcaeast, when you press the alt/prt scr combination, you're actually copying the picture to your system clipboard. Nothing is going to happen until you "paste" (Ctrl V or Edit/Paste) from your clipboard to somewhere else! ;)

As far as Photoshop is concerned, open a new document and then "paste" with the Ctrl V command or Edit/Paste.

As far where your clipboard (viewer) is located, it depends on the operating system you're using. I don't know NT, but I just had a *hell* of a time finding mine (Windows XP) but it finally turned up (new name 'clipbook viewer') in Windows/System 32. Once you locate your "clipboard" put a shortcut to it on your desktop or taskbar so that it's easily accessible at any time. Comes in handy! ;)

:) You're Welcome Tanya!

Thanks for sharing that info with us, Ammaro! ;)

Here's another shareware program that's only $19.95 and gives you COMPLETE control over what you capture and/or print. It's called PrintKey-Pro. I've been using it for a couple of years and would not be without it.

There are too many options to mention but the one I use the most is the "get specific area" option. That tool is like the crop too in PS and lets you select ANY area and any part of your monitor to capture and save. I've used it at times just to capture and print a URL for later use.

If anyone is interested you can find it at www.warecentral.com ;)

Hi There Folks! :)

Go to http://www.gadwin.com for a free download of a terrific piece of code.....Gadwin Printscreen 2.6 captures the contents of the screen with a single keystroke. The captured screen can then be sent to the printer,or saved to disk as a file in 6 different graphics file formats (BMP , JPEG , GIF , PNG , TIFF , TGA ,)

Gadwin Printscreen can capture the entire windows screen, the active window, or a specified area, when the hotkey is pressed..The Hotkey defaults to the Printscreen key, but users may also define other keys to initiate a capture.

Gadwin Printscreen allows you to e-mail the captured images to recipients of your choice!

SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS:

Gadwin Printscreen ver. 2.6 requires " Microsoft Windoze" 98/ME/2000/XP/ or Windows NT 4.OSP6. I f you are running any of these operating systems and have a windows compatible mouse or pointing device, your system has already met the requirements necessary to run Gadwin Printscreen. A full installation of Gadwin Printscreen requires 1 Megabyte of hard drive space!.......

Hope this helps! I use it and it is neat! AND IT IS FREE!!!!
