Duplicate original, turn original off.
Remove the white BG of the duplicate.
Create a new layer below duplicate and fill with white.
Highlight the duplicate layer.
Go to channels, check to see which channel is darkest. Lets say green (?)
Go back to layers.
Go to Image, apply image, set layer to merged, set channel to green, set mode to darken. Hit OK.
Add a Curves adjustment layer. Set to desired darkness.
