Make the frame of the old pictures

Hi,

I want to make a frame of an old picture like the picture I have enclosed (I mean the white boarder around the photo) and mask a photo inside it.

Could you please let me know how I can do that?

Here you go mate..

Create two new layers underneath your photo layer.
On the bottom layer, fill it with a dark background color. (choose a color, then hit ALT+BACKSPACE).
On the middle layer, choose a light, off-white color, click on your photo image layer, CTL+Click the layer thumbnail image (this should create a selection around the image), then click on your middle layer and hit ALT+BACKSPACE, filling it with an off-white shape the same size as the image.
Now, either expand the border color, or shrink the photo image, so the border has the desired dimensions. (use CTL+T to transform)
I would probably use the eraser tool on the white border to get that rough shape on the edges.

Thanks, My question is exactly on the rough edges. Like this new picture. Should I make a brush for it (if yes how?)

Personally (as an artist), I would make my own edge then add a drop shadow for the effect.

That is my intention too, I just don't know how to implement my edge around the photo....

Just use the eraser tool, make it small, hardness 90-100%, and draw an uneven line around the outside edge. Nothing fancy.

i have prepared vector layer of that shape some times ago.i will look if i may find it.

New layer white on top of first layer black, insert pictur onto white layer resize to leave white border.
Then use erasure to nibble away it edge of white border, making as random as possible.

use this as a mask or selection to make your frame.
you may add old paper or canvas texture to it, use burn tool on certain places to make it look old...

for such things i use coreldraw. way easier and versatile in use.
