I have to assume you are not very experienced with Photoshop. This is one way to do it, but you need to understand layers and masking. Create a new layer below the picture and fill it with white. Add a layer mask to the picture layer and paint mask with black to reveal the white layer below. If you make a mistake paint with white to correct it.

If your image shows checkerboard, then all you need is a white layer under it...checkerboard is 'transparency"

add layer, white, move under image

Thank you for your response. I have no experience with Photoshop. Can someone please fix it for me?

@the OP - Do you want it to 2" by 2" when displayed on a monitor, or when printed?

Tom M

PS - If this is to be printed, on what type of printer will it be done? Your own printer? A photo-kiosk in a store? etc.?

PPS - Is this for a passport?

If you are going to print it at 2" x 2", do NOT reduce the number of pixels. Just set the desired size on the printer (if it's a kiosk), or, if it's your own printer, adjust the final size in the software you are using to print it.

BTW, here's a (gratis) brighter version at your original resolution. It will undoubtedly print better than the very dark original.

Thank you for your help too.

I will say this one thing, i always thought any passport/visa photograph needed to be taken from a recognised photo booth type place, not scanned or photoshop reworks?

At least here in the States, you can submit DIY photos, but there is a whole list of requirements that must be met and the probability of a non-experienced individual meeting those rqmts is probably not very high, hence the recommendation to use a service.

See: http://travel.state.gov/passport/pptphotoreq/pptphotoreq_5333.html

For example, from the little sketch at the bottom of that page, it looks like the OP included a bit more torso than desired.

HTH,

Tom

Not really guys.

In some countries like mine and the Middle East, DIY pixes are acceptable for as long as the person in PP pix isn't photohopped to look different. (ie.. remove scars, baggie eyes or tattoos, custom repair nose , shave look.... ) . There are stringent requirements and procedures to be met in the application/submission and most especially, the retrieval of documents from the issuing authorities .

In the OP's request, he needed a change in background color which IS a requirement in his area. Can't blame him if this is his best photo.

Had he requested facial plastic surgery or alteration of any kind to his face or body, this thread would have been long closed and out of sight.
