Hey Samuel, the color is a bit off in the first one and it's too dark. You might have have used an ash cloud instead of real clouds letting them add to a dark and ominous effect.
I like the lighting in the second one. The eruptive flames atop the volcano are a bit too contained, the edges are a bit hard. The falling debris looks great except they are all identical! You might use warp to reshape them. The masking on them needs some work, they appear square.
The little boy has a white edge around him (not the same as a backlit glow) probably from the selection process, he just needs a little blending.
Not bad though!
I think it's pretty good except for the flames.

Imo you should alter each flame so it doesn't look like you are using the same brush. The square shape at the start of the flame doesn't agree with my perception of what it should look like either, I think it should look rounder. If the flames are from the volcano then some of the angles look way wrong. Otherwise like sam said not bad.
