Hi!I am making a new logo for a website, and I wonder:banghead: what is the best resolution and dimentions for that.I appreciate any help.Thank you.

The best resolution for making any logo is 300 dpi. If you want to use it for website should re-size the logo at 72 dpi. Save the logo in gif format as it is the best format for a logo image. You can use the 300 dpi logo for printing purpose.

Your logo should be designed Vector in Illustrator that way you can resize it. For web however, bring it into Photoshop, rasterize it and resize to 72dpi (web res).

Hi Guys... I can't remeber where iv'e seen it, But i came across a thread in another forum a short while back about resolution and logo's.. for the web..

The thread which was done by a graphic designer said that it makes no difference wether it's 72 or 300... except if the logo was going to be either resized to the size of bus or a bill board, or reduce to be printed or engraved on a pen,key fob etc, then as stated a vector base program at 300 would be required.. However, if for the web there is no set rule that you should use 72.. he also stated that using 300dpi would not affect the logo if designing for the web , you should design the Logo at around 200x200 and turn it into a smart object..

Not so sure myself.... i did try it and did a logo at 300 at 200x200 and resized it down to 150x150 and it looked ok... but what do you guys( the pro's ) say.. should all logo's be design in a vector base programe taking the futuer in to account, by that i mean if some one has a web site, then further down the road they expand and do more advertizing and eventualy lead to printed materials possibly bill boards etc would you take this into account and always design in vector..

Intrested to lean more about this and what your thoughts comments are ... Thank you..

You can design your logo on a piece of paper if you want, the question is whether you have the skill to reproduce it in vector format. You have to take into consideration that although you may have a vector image, it might still not be suitable for printing or engraving. For example:-View attachment 22682I can resize this to what ever size I like, but unless for engraving.

If you familiarise yourself with the different methods of printing, etc, you will realize that the logo will be done as various different versions so it is suitable for where ever the logo is applied.

Also I feel I should point out, the higher the resolution, the bigger the file, so if it is for the web, it may take a considerable amount of time longer to load in a browser if the res is too high. That being said, with broadband speeds increasing all the time, the time it take to load a page full of hd content is getting shorter, which means it will all boil down to the hosting plan and how much monthly band with you have.
