Hi all. I don't know if I've ask this before but here it is any way. LOGO DESIGN IN PHOTOSHOP.... YES OR NO?........ I have been reading some articles over this and basically I read one that said Photoshop vector tools , shapes etc are capable of making the logos , even if they are resized as long as no gradients or shading is done. once it exported you can view it in Illustrator and there will be no loss of resolution or quality and the overall image will have no pixilation as its being viewed in vector program. Photoshop is raster editor and will always show pixilation though the software. The article also stated that there is an out put from Photoshop allowing to export the vector from Photoshop in to an eps file. On the other hand I have read articles that say no way for logo's unless for the web only...... Photoshop's vectors are not true vectors compared to illustrator or a vector program.... What do you think ?.. yes or no to logos in Photoshop.

you can design them in photoshop,
but just redo them in illustrator so you can resize them to any size you want

lets say you have a starting business so you only need a logo in one size, there wouldnt be a problem with photoshop

but when you start printing your logo's on clothes, letters, bussiness cards, website etc etc, you need your logo in a lot of different size, so that is why you use a vector based program, no loss when resizing

"Yes or No"
YES But it also depends on clients needs and use.sure can be a real Balancing act at times.

So would it need to be bill board size ?.so it can be scaled down from there ?... My be I didn't put this forward in the right way. but are Photoshop's vector tools real vector when exported in eps format ?..... Because if they are there would be no real need for Illustrator for logo design ?.IF no gradients or shading etc is used........... so.. for instance I use the pen tool.. make a shape... fill with a solid colour... use the shape tool and fill with a solid colour..... is this now a vector logo when exported ?..

this is discussed in detail within many threads here, there are tons of threads explaining the difference but if you want to do a billboard sized graphics in ps you better have a computer that will handle it lol you know how big that file would be.....holy moly!
if you want it to be resizable with no loss use Ai. i can't imagine the size ps would be just a 10'x6' billboard and thats small it would be like 20 gigabits or so(and thats blank)

Thanks iDad.... think I will stick with what I know which is to do all logos in vector, import in to Photoshop if for web and tart it up a bit. I should stop reading possible senseless posts in other forums and stick to what I really already should have known. Its just when I saw this post I thought I would be able to cut down on time spent in Illustrator or Corel Draw and just use Photoshop... I now there's many a post about this in hear and I should have took more time to look, but I'm just to busy and in and out of here and just wanted a quick answer. Oh well back to the drawing board.

I have made logos in PS for business cards, small posters, (16X20 the largest, but of course the logo was not that large, duh) and brochures. They have all looked good. I don't know how that would translate to a t-shirt or something larger. Like iDad said, look to the client's use or yours.

Do you have AI?

I'm not sure what you mean by 'real vector', this term could confuse others. A program can either support drawing and exporting paths/vectors or it can't, a yes or no answer. Photoshop CAN do this, so if you decide to create a vector logo in Ps (using whatever vector tool; shapes, pen etc) then export it to Ai, you won't have any problems.

Hi ibclare.

Yes I have illustrator... but I tend to use Corel Draw more often than not, I find it more easy to learn and quicker. I am still learning illustrator at the moment which is why I ask the original question.

I have only ever done stuff like stickers ,badges, logos etc for the web, not print . That's why I was asking about the Photoshop tools that are vector base, and would they retain the resolution if scaled upwards. As I mention this only to find if I need illustrator or not so I don't have to use it..

RTContent...

I only mention true vector as I have heard this mention in some other forums. I have seen a discussion over Corel Draw vrs Illustrator.. and some say Corel Draw and Photoshop are not true vectors compared to illustrator which is why I got into illustrator.

Don't really understand the full term myself but if you do a search will understand what I was asking without me making it to complicated here.

Thank you both.

Photoshop is mainly used to create logo designs and working perfectly for the vector designing so for the purpose of vector you should use the illustrator editor and its working very well to convert the images into vector graphic forma. Here you can check the examples of the vector designs. http://logo32.com/olive-vector . i hope this will be useful for you.
