layers palette

I've been using PS7 for a few months and recently the layers palette isn't showing the layers properly.
It is greyed out and there aren't any icons.
I,ve just taken jpegs from the anvanced photoshop mag cd and the same happens.
Have I altered something or do I need to re-install!!!

You might want to delete Photoshop's preferences: hold CTRL+ALT+Shift (on PC) as soon as Photoshop loads.
