Layer styles and brushes?

Hi,

Apologies if this has been covered before; I did a google search and a forum search and couldn't find any answer so I guess I'd best start my own thread :-)

Is it possible to make a brush (of text in this case) which will also preserve layer styles (stroke, inner glow, outer glow, inner shadow, satin and gradient overlay specifically?) or would it be easier to make a brush of the text, create a new layer style and apply the layer style to anything I brush onto?

Hope that all makes sense and apologies for the newbie question!

Many thanks.

Best,

Simon

Hi,

Think of a custom made brush like you would a layer mask. Both use variations of a greyscale from white to black, or light to dark when dealing with colors. White/light being transparent and black/dark being opaque.

So........any layer style applied to the text would only show if it directly affects the lightness or darkness of the brush created from it.

The best way to visualize this is to create some text on a white or transparent BG , add some layer styles, define it as a brush preset. Choose your brush tool and select the newly created brush and try it out on a white BG!
