Layer Mode

When changing layer modes where is the adjustment for the amount of dissolve in the layer mode "Dissolve", or is there any? I want to use that mode but not to the degree default is set at..any ideas?

Use the Opacity and Fill sliders.

good idea but I want less of fragments on edges if you know what I mean

You said around the edges so would a mask work?
Use a soft low Opacity brush around the edges.

I don't think I've ever used Dissolve so maybe that doesn't make sense and I don't know what your shooting for.

iDad, Steve gave you the answer: the opacity level of the layer control the dissolve.
I'd use several layers, and mask them gradually to acheive what I guess you are after.
