There are hundreds of tuts outhere. You will learn that the best way is heavilly depending on the picture in question. Generally speaking, using the pen tool or the "Channels method" gives the best outcome. The magnetic lasso tool is perfect for well defined edges, but fails in complex areas like hair or leaves on a tree.
