This has taken me about 5 hours to make, I have tried it with a colored background but I can´t decide what to do. Is the white on this too white? Does it need something else? I´ve been staring at it for so long I can hardly see it anymore lol :)

i would change the text a lil bit it gets lost in everything Maybe a different color or font just to give it a lil POP!!

Thank you scoop! yes, I was having problems with the font, I think I tried out about a hundred different ones, and different colors, then I got so tired of it that I gave up for the time being lol.

I will take your advice and go back to it again. :) / vafann

Nice job Vafann

And yeah, your first thought was right, i have to agree the solid white background is too sharp and blinding at some point, instead try adding some sort of medium light texture, usually grunge or subtle concrete textures fits right, in this style, also i think there's too many wire frames or lines in front of the model, try putting some of them behind the model, in the case of the spiral ones try to get the "wrap around fx", also changing some colors, opacity, and blurring like light streaks, it wont hurt, if you add color to the lines try adding similar color shades spots on the model. to reflect those lights.

And btw I'm not a pro by any means, just another PS user who loves creativity.

Thank you Maximus! You are so right, I will try to do all the things you have suggested. I think I know what you mean by "Wrap around fx" but I don´t know how to do that, is it with with some distortion tool? I haven´t changed anything yet, I just woke up lol, but I will post the one I made before with the background and wonder if it looks better or worse?

That background overpowers the subject imo. Think you should go for a more subtle mono-coloured pattern or structure. Otherwise it's a very well done image and especially so since it is so expressive.

Personally I got a bit of a problem associating it with "JUMP" since she looks quite entangled ... Perhaps "WEB" .. ?

... or "STAY PUT" .. :bustagut: (kidding)...

Thank you JGN! How about "STUCK" ? LOL!!

interesting work, not sure which i like better, the white background or the swirly, both give a completely different mood to the image.

Thank you Siodre! yes, it is hard to decide, I think I will decide to throw it in the garbage LOL! :)

DON'T EVEN DARE DO THAT !!!
This is one of the better ones I've seen from you - if not the best this far - and it deserves a better faith than end up in the trash.
There are places out there on The Net where you can find background textures and structures for free, if that's the problem. You can start here : StockXCHNG. And then there's MorgueFile and Image*After.
If you don't know where to go with it from here - leave it for a week and then return to it. You will see it with new eyes then.

GASP!!! Ok,ok, I won´t throw it away! Man you are scary! lol!

Seriously... Thank you JGN, I maybe have to start to think differently about the things I make, I have just seen them as practice, or scribbles, for when I have learned how to really use Photoshop and create something good sometime in the future.

I suppose the things I am making now, could be used for something later, so I will stop throwing things away, I will put them somewhere, and come back to them later. Thank you for your advice. :)

Well, if it's not obvious buy now I am a Photoshop Instructor and Teacher most of the time and contradictory to modern pedagogic approaches - I find kickin' my students butts actually can give the positive results I want from them.
Just ask Cindy ... :)

No - wrong. The "future" is happening right now as in you are laying the fundation for it. When did you think the future would occure .. ? Stop thinking of it in such vague terms. If you do, it won't ever happend...

Or think of it like this: You know you did something a while ago and now whant to re-create it in a new piece. But you don't remeber what you did and how - and you've thrown it away so you have to re-invent The Wheel over and over again...

Go get yourself one ot those big ass 1 TB External HD's (have a look at Dustin if nothing else) - I've got two of them - save sh** as PSD's and stop throwing anything you even remotely like away.

Wasn't it so that you came here to educate yourself ... ?

Now - was that scary enough ?:twisted:

Yes. yes, yes, and yes, to everything else (shiver) I´m really scared now...lol! Thank you, I really appreciate all the help I have gotten since I came here, and I know that I have made progress because of it, it just seems like the more I learn, the more I also learn how wrong I am doing things, and how much more I have to learn before I will be satisfied with the results. But of course that is because I am comparing myself to others, and I know that it doesn´t matter how good you try to get at something there is always someone who you will think is better, I just wish I didn´t think that just about EVERYBODY is better at Photoshop than I am Lol.

Yes, yes, I will not think in terms of "better" I will think in terms of "different" and "more experienced". I have about 1 1/2 TB of space including an external hardrive so that isn´t a problem, I have just been thinking that I shouldn´t be using it to store a bunch of junk. :)

I am really eternally grateful for you, and all the other teachers I have found here, learning to do this is very important to me, long story, but this is kind of like my last straw. :)

>... long story, but this is kind of like my last straw.

Without delving into the current shitty situation in Sweden - I have actually kind of understood that. Really !
I don't know about you but I've got 56 years of experience living here ... :)

So my best advice here is to flush that dreaded Jante down the toilet.
And never mind the "haters". They will always be there and you can't avoid them. Look at the positive responses you get and let those guide you.

So - next step:

Don't compare yourself with everyone. It's like those classic Western Movies. There's always someone quicker on the draw ... :)

Define what it is you want to do and get yourself a couple of selected favourites in that area - like Cindy for instance - and go for getting as close as you can to their work. Before you know it you have developed your own style and start to see the flows in their stuff ...

And you are progressing since you initially signed up. Also, you are very active - like starting the Challenge thing - and that is really good.
Looking at and evaluate other peoples image work is an important part of the process.

Oh, and one more thing ... I won't go away that easy ...

Hearing that you actually see how shitty the current situation is in Sweden at the moment, makes me all the more understand that you are a very wise man, and I will not neglect your advice. :)

Thanks, Vafann !
But it doesn't really take a wise man to see what's going on. It's quite enough just being human ... :)
