Hi guys I hope you can help me. I have to upload my work to a site but when I do it looks terrible. I worked in CMYK because I also have to show prints of this work so I know that that might be part of the culprit. But I'd like to know if there is something I might be doing wrong, maybe through saving it out? I exported it out of Illustrator 72dpi, baseline format, anti-alias and embed ICC profile.

I doubt you saved the image via Save for Web & Devices....

Web browsers uses RGB mode. The other type of RGB is called "sRGB " and is the default color space of every Web browser known.

When you choose Save for Web, Photoshop automatically converts your image to sRGB.

Or convert the CMYK image to RGB so you can adjust it for the Web.

bright hues often come out wrong when saving as a jpeg I cant think if the use web only safe colors is available in Illustrator. But in photoshop you can resample the colours but in the actual pop up window where you can sample specific colors there is a tick box at the bottom labelled use web safe colors only you could try that and should be able to get similar colors.

Also I find PNG format gives a better quality image.
