Abraham Lincoln was elected to Congress in 1846.
John F. Kennedy was elected to Congress in 1946.

Abraham Lincoln was elected President in 1860..
John F. Kennedy was elected President in 1960..

Both were particularly concerned with civil rights.
Both wives lost their children while living in the White House.

Both Presidents were shot on a Friday.
Both Presidents were shot in the head.

Now it gets really weird.

Lincoln's secretary was named Kennedy.
Kennedy's Secretary was named Lincoln.

Both were assassinated by Southerners.
Both were succeeded by Southerners named Johnson.

And! Andrew Johnson, who succeeded Lincoln, was born in 1808.
Lyndon Johnson, who succeeded Kennedy, was born in 1908.

John Wilkes Booth, who assassinated Lincoln, was born in 1839.
Lee Harvey Oswald, who assassinated Kennedy, was born in 1939.

Both assassins were known by their three names.
Both names are composed of fifteen letters.

Now hang on to your seat.

Lincoln was shot at the theater named 'Ford.'
Kennedy was shot in a car called 'Lincoln' made by 'Ford.'

Lincoln was shot in a theater and his assassin ran and hid in a warehouse.
Kennedy was shot from a warehouse and his assassin ran and hid in a theater.

Booth and Oswald were assassinated before their trials.

And here's the kicker...

A week before Lincoln was shot, he was in Monroe, Maryland
A week before Kennedy was shot, he was with Marilyn Monroe.....

It is anunusual set of circumstances but far-fetched thank you for this (notice of our presidents assassination) though. The country was wounded deeply, I remember the sorrow in my little town, both Democrats and Republicans.

I read on a blog today that America hurt more that day than 9/11, to me he was a great guy (funny ways/hang ups) but none the less a great speaker and forward thinking man.

He was from a time where Republicans and Democrats got along they had their differences but not as profound as nowadays. There were similarities between 9/11 and his assassination but more hurt, I don't know

Do you know who got transferred to a minimum security prison not far from my home yesterday? Sirhan Sirhan.

Well, OK, they do have more than one level of security, but it is mainly minimum and medium and is considerably less imposing looking a place. Friend of mine used to work there. Donovan State Prison.

Wow I'm surprised I didn't see that in the news, I remember that also, what an embarrassing/dreadful time in our history, two Kennedys and King that was a sad time

I think JFK's assassination created shock and profound sadness throughout the country. People were bewildered and hurt. There was of course anger and suspicion, to this day conspiracy theories live.

9/11 elicited the same emotions, even suspicion of the US government, perhaps partly justified regarding the management/the view of domestic terrorism in those days. Seems to me there was a lot more anger and outrage over 9/11, the loss of so many lives, including rescue personnel. JFK was a good president (my opinion) and a figurehead. Symbols are hugely important to people, but the loss of more than 3,000 people affected so many personally, jarred the US, and jettisoned its people into the reality of terrorism on US soil.

I think perhaps the biggest difference was the relative innocence of the American people who had just emerged from the 50s Betty Crocker and Frigidaire and hadn't entered the Era of Flower Power yet, much less Osama bin Laden.

I have to echo iDad, more hurt? IDk about that. And I don't know who could measure and compare them on the same scale nor by the same criteria.

But I'm glad you brought it up Paul. Food for thought.

I'm not sure hurt apply's here.. I was ten when JFK was shot...too young to see the real horror and loss of trust and innocence so little hurt from that, My hurt came from the loss of trust in a land called Vietnam...We regained a bit of the Patriotism back on 9/11, but the loss of trust still continues to this day as evidenced by the partisan bickering in DC .
