I am trying to cut out part of a jpeg in photoshop i.e the face from a picture. i want to create a border that follows the cut out area. I use the pen tool to create a path around it but then if i try to copy to another layer it keeps a square box around the shape.????

Im not sure if i can save the cut out part independent of the background to put into illustrator and then put a border around it or if i can put simple white line border around in photoshop the export or save without the background.

Can anyone help me ??????

After you create a path with the pen tool around your object, right click on or near the line, and choose "make selection."

It should turn your path into marching ants. Now, CTL+C, and CTL+V.

See if that works.
