Is there any way to recover photos that you've lost?

so I edited a lot of pictures and saved them somewhere in my external hard drive, but don't know where, i'm afraid i might have overlaid the folder with a previous version of it… so, my question is, is there any way to see where you've saved your edited pictures, or, does photoshop save it in somewhere else besides the folder that you've "save as…"'ed ? thanks very much!

I dunno. My Photoshop default saves to my desktop. My other guesses would be the windows default picture folder or maybe the Adobe folder in your program files.

See if it's still in the recent files, File-Open Recent. If so open and then File-Save-As, that will show you where it was saved.

If you know the name of any of the files, you can search and right click for location. At lease that is how the PC works with Windows Explorer. I haven't had a Mac in awhile so I can't direct you.

If you haven't set your preferences for file handling, you've probably still got the "save as" set to" original folder." You could try open recent on your computer's list or in PS and try save as and see where it saves. You could go to Open recent in Explorer and you can right click to open file location. Of course all "recent" lists have limitations.

If you specifically saved them somewhere else and don't remember a file or folder name you assigned, I don't know.

there's search function in windows. type .jpg in the search box it will list all of the photos on your pc if the file is still there.
if deleted there is freeware called Recuva that might be of help, even i'm not so sure if the files have been overwritten.
