Is it possible to align layers so that they stack?

disclaimer: i tried the search function but it didn't come up with what i needed :-/

Dear Community,

I need a little help. I have two photos that were taken at two different times during the day. Now the problem is, that these two photos do not equal 100% in their angle and therefore perspective. I wanted to know if there is a way to let photoshop put them on top of each other like it would do when creating a HDR, just without actually creating the HDR but do the "deghosting" and ideally also a geometric correction? Hope that makes sense? :-/

Any help tips or advice would be greatly appreciated! If you know of any 3rd party software that could achieve this....better than nothing :)

I am not 100% but I do not think there is a automated function for this. Since you say the angles do not match up the way I would do it is piece the different parts of the image together manually to a get a sudo hdr image (ie cut out the sky and drop it in the other picture). Could you upload the images, that way I can see what you're up against :)

As for other software, the only thing that comes to mind would be Microsoft ICE. It's a pretty cool piece of software if you haven't heard of it already, and its free which is even better.

thx a lot for your reply!
i tried the software you suggested but I am afraid Microsoft ICE isn't capable of this either....

isn't that a little weird? basically, every HDR software aligns all the layers and "deghosts" them before merging. all i want is the software to stop before the merging so i can play around with my two aligned layers and blend them the way I like.....

You can just transform it manually and see how you get on. Upload the images as I may be able to help you further.

i appreciate your help, RTcontent, but I think i could manage to do it manually. I just don't want to. There has to be a way to get this done automatically!

then just put them over each other and play with the blending options.
i would have to disagree there are many stitching tools that are capable perfectly merging photos taken in different conditions and perspective angle. Photoshop itself is having numerous issues with it.
for the end, if there are just two photos you want to merge, i'm wondering just how hard and time consuming may it be so you don't want to do it manually?
